About the Mile
The year's fastest turf horses three years old and up will be battling it out in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup® Mile, a race that suits horses who are used to running on grass. In fact, European-based horses have won nine times in the 24-year history of the race. Last year's winner, Kip Deville, put in a top performance considering the super-soft grass course that many horses struggled to get their footing on. In 2001, French-based Val Royal set the race record of 1:32:05.
