Independence Bowl Betting Matchup
With teams nestled in the bottom half of the Big 12 and SEC invited to the 2005 Independence Bowl, you weren’t necessarily going to see the best teams. But Missouri was determined to prove they had one of the best players.
Will it be the same story in the 2006 Independence Bowl? Last season, Mizzou QB Brad Smith ran for three touchdowns in rallying the Big 12’s Tigers past Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina Gamecocks 38-31.
The game marked Spurrier’s return to a bowl game for the first time since he left Florida for the NFL four years ago. He did it with defense, not offense in South Carolina. The Gamecocks arrived at a 7-4 record because they allowed only 17.3 points per game in their last six contests. Though they only finished with a 6-5 record, the Tigers planned to create problems for South Carolina, mainly Smith. He not only threw for more than 2,000 yards, he also piled up a team-high 1,151 yards rushing.
