Texas Bowl Betting Matchup

The Houston Bowl stays in Houston but becomes the Texas Bowl for 2006. Last year, it was a quasi-home game for TCU, whose 10-1 season largely went unnoticed because it played in the weak Mountain West Conference.

This year’s edition of the Houston Bowl (Texas Bowl) will feature the No. 3 school from the Big East against the seventh-place team from the Big 12.

About the Texas Bowl 2006

The Houston Bowl (Texas Bowl) is a post-season college football game sanctioned by the NCAA that has been played in Houston, Texas since 2000. It became the Texas Bowl for the 2006 season.

The 2005 Houston Bowl was played on 31 December 2005 at the 62,439-seat Reliant Astrodome in Houston. Iowa State of the Big 12 Conference and TCU of the Mountain West Conference accepted their respective invitations to play in the EV1.net Houston Bowl.

TCU was the nation's highest ranked team from a conference without an automatic bid to the Bowl Championship Series. The Cyclones and the Horned Toads had met twice before, in 1995 and 1998, with Iowa State winning both contests.

The Horned Frogs averaged 33.5 points (19th nationally) and kept defenses guessing with a balanced attack. For the second straight year, Iowa State (7-4) blew an opportunity to play for the Big 12 title after losing its final game of the regular season.

History of the Texas Bowl

Created by Jerry Ippoliti in 2000, the first three Houston Bowl (Texas Bowl) games featured matchups between college football's Big 12 Conference and Conference USA.

From 2000 to 2001 the game was known as the galleryfurniture.com Bowl. In recognition of its current sponsor, the game is now officially the EV1.net Houston Bowl.

TCU defeated Iowa State 27-24 in the 2005 Houston Bowl behind a solid first half and a late field goal. The game never delivered the promised offensive explosion, but cemented TCU’s claim to a Top 10 final rank and extended its 10-game winning streak through the end of the season.
