Bet on Super Bowl Props: Jordin Sparks, Tom Petty Novelty Odds

by Bodog Sportsbook | Jan 25 2008

Superbowl opening

How long will it take Jordin Sparks to sing the national anthem?
Over      1:42      -125
Under    1:42      -115

Jordin Sparks has sung the American national anthem on various different sporting occasions and her average anthem singing time has been 1:40. However, this being said, the Super Bowl is kind of a big deal and stars have been known to take advantage of that by going big instead of going home with another standard performance. Not to mention the fact that her dad is Phillippi Sparks, a former NFL player who played for the Dallas Cowboys, and, wait for it, the New York Giants. He’ll probably be in the stands sporting his Giants gear from back in the day and holding the biggest “I love my daughter” sign known to man.

What brand of Anheuser-Busch will have more commercials on Super Bowl Sunday?
Bud Light    -125
Budweiser   -115

Who knew that winning such a prop was a big deal for brewing companies? Well it is and Anheuser-Bush has apparently bought seven commercial spots during the 2008 Super Bowl. Bud Light is the best-selling beer in America and has the funniest ads due to the money put into advertising it. Something to keep in mind though is that Bud Light will be toning it down a bit this year during the Super Bowl because they want to save some funny for the other 364 days of the year. Will this mean fewer of the funny Bud Light commercials because of the need to spread them out?

What song will Tom Petty sing to end his halftime show at the Super Bowl?
“Free Fallin’”                           1/1
“Don’t Do Me Like That”        5/1
“Learning to Fly”                      12/1
“Into the Great Wide Open”    9/1
“Mary Jane’s Last Dance”       4/1
“Runnin’ Down A Dream”        9/4

Instead of having to deal with the shenanigans of this generation’s performers like in previous years, the Super Bowl has decided to bring old school back with classic rockers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. There won’t be any heartbreaking around Tom since he and his gang with their conservative ways have been known for consistency and loyalty to one another through sickness and health and until death due them part. So will they save the best song for last like many a concert where “Free Fallin’” was their send off? Or will they open with it to remind those caught up in mainstream riffs and beats who they are? They could also close with “Runnin’ Down a Dream” which would be relevant to the game since the Patriots and Giants are chasing down their dreams of being the 2008 Super Bowl winners. “Learning to Fly” was used in the 1991 Chicago Bulls NBA Championship video, so it’s possible that Petty will consider it a hit that sports fans recognize and therefore close with it.

Who will the MVP of the Game thank first?
Teammates                   3/1
God                               2/1
Family                           2/1
Coach                            4/1
Doesn't thank anyone  6/1

This all depends on who the MVP is. If it’s Tom Brady, the predicted favorite, it may very well be his teammates since every day that he walks into the Patriots’ meeting room, he reads a sign above the door that says, “What’s expected of you… No.1… do your job.” And by doing his job, Brady, and the rest of the Patriots reading that sign, put everything in their lives except for football aside because of the responsibility they have to one another to be the best they can be. If Randy Moss wins MVP, he may ultimately want to thank himself, but that’s not an option, so maybe he’ll thank God for creating him, someone so good with mad skills. If down-to-earth players like Wes Welker get picked, they might be more inclined to thank their families – whether families means their “real” families or their football families is debatable. And if players known for hot-headedness, like Plaxico Burress, are chosen, their passionate personas might be inclined to thank God. Hallelujah!

Will Peyton Manning be in attendance during the Super Bowl?
Yes    Even
No    -140

Playing your first Super Bowl game is a pretty big deal and Eli is probably hoping to see his big brother cheering him on from the stands at one of the biggest games of his life. Except there’s one minor detail that’s maybe not so minor. When Peyton showed up at Eli’s game when the Giants played the Vikings on Nov. 25, Eli had about the same luck as Tony Romo when Jessica Simpson bounced up and down in the stands. Poor Peyton has been tagged as bad luck after his brother had four interceptions, three of which were returned for touchdowns. Although they play for different teams, that hasn’t changed the fact that they have offered each other advice and support throughout the whole season. So maybe Peyton will sneak in unnoticed to see his little bro shine.
