Odds To Win Super Bowl: New York Giants vs. New England Patriots

by Bodog Sportsbook | Jan 23 2008

Superbowl teams, New York Giants vs. New England Patriots

The 2008 Super Bowl will feature the lethal New England Patriots versus the tried and true New York Giants. Some have suggested we’re dealing with a David and Goliath matchup, but are we? After last year’s AFC Championship upset and the fines that slammed them early on in the 2007 season, the Patriots seemed like they took some notes from pro boxer Mike Tyson. This season the Patriots are “the best ever” with “impetuous” style, have a defense that’s “impregnable” and have a “ferocious” need to rip hearts out. Sorry David, but it doesn’t sound like Goliath is going to fall that easily.

The 11-point favorites going into the game are the undefeated Patriots, sitting majestically at 18-0 SU and with an ATS of 10-8. Aside from the fact that they’ve failed to cover the spread in eight of their games, there isn’t anything bad to say about the Patriots – regardless of their final score, they’ve still won every game. Not only have they been favored from the start, they’ve pretty much blown all season records out of the water.

The New York Giants haven’t had the same predestined luck but they’ve been rockin’ it lately. Rockin’ it all the way to the NFC Championships, that is. They started off with pretty miserable Super Bowl odds at 50-1, and after losing their first two games, those odds just got worse and they were sitting at 125-1 in Week 3. They did manage to climb back up after Week 3 to place themselves at about 18-1 midseason but somehow managed to fall back to around 50-1 around the end of the season. However, like the city they come from, these Giants kept the energy up and pushed their way to the 2008 Super Bowl. Right now they’re at 13-6 SU and they’ve matched that with a 13-6 ATS record, which in the realm of Super Bowl betting is a good thing.

What's more, the Giants are building momentum. Eli Manning was a loose cannon at the beginning of the season but now it seems like he’s got things under control and knows when he has to fire it up. During the NFC Championship game he threw a total of 254 yards and leading up to that game he’d upped the ante against other quarterbacking legends like Tom Brady, Tony Romo and Brett Favre.
