NCAA Basketball Betting Top 25 - Indiana Hoosiers

We are bringing you a preview of the top 25 college basketball teams in the nation (according to the ESPN/USA Today Poll), one a day until Selection Sunday. Today we look at No. 15, the Indiana Hoosiers.

Strengths: Team unity. Coach Kelvin Sampson is under investigation by the NCAA and is expected to be suspended and then fired by the university. When informed by Indiana’s executives of the decision, top players D.J. White and Eric Gordon threatened to quit the team. Freshman guard Eric Gordon is expected to be a top-five pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. Gordon can fill up the score sheet like few others. D.J. White has been a great college player but it may not carry over to the NBA game. His toughness, however, should help propel the Hoosier to a top-four seed when the NCAA Tournament starts.

Weaknesses: The turmoil surrounding coach Sampson will affect the team come tournament time. The players aren’t happy with the prospect of his removal.

Summary: The investigation couldn’t come at a worse time for the Hoosiers; Indiana has been playing inspired basketball. The team, lead by Gordon and White, was expected to make some noise during March Madness. How the players react is going to determine Indiana’s fate in the tournament. They may adopt a “win this one for coach” attitude, and if that happens the opposition should be wary of facing the Hoosiers in March.
