MLB Streakers
by Bodog Sportsbook | May 13 2008
Bodog Sportsbook takes a look at the some of the current hot streaks from MLB teams and players in this edition of Streakers.
Streak ShowTampa Bay RaysThe Tampa Bay Rays are currently on a five-game winning streak with wins over the Blue Jays, Angels and Yankees. The Rays are now only 1.5 games back of the division-leading Boston Red Sox. The Rays’ win streak is due in large part to their strong play at Tropicana Field, where they have won three straight. Their hitting has been timely – they smashed the Bronx Bombers in their last win, belting out seven runs on 13 hits. The Rays are an extremely young team, and their up-and-coming stars like Evan Longoria, B.J. Upton and Carl Crawford have been on fire as of late. Eric Hinske is also off to a great start. The combination of power hitting and aggressive base running has been a successful formula so far. Pitching has also been surprisingly solid for the Rays – they shut out the Angels in back-to-back games and have rallied with run support behind the arms of James Shields and Andy Sonnanstine.
Florida MarlinsThe Fish are back. The Marlins had been streaking like a drunk pledge at a frat party up until their 8-7 loss to the Reds Monday night. Florida had won seven straight games going into Monday and they were getting it done with the long ball, timely pitching and a whole lot of rallying. The Marlins lead the majors in home runs with 56 and are in the top 10 in RBIs with 176. This team is growing with confidence each day and currently has a 2.5 game lead on the Philadelphia Phillies.
StreakersDan Uggla The Florida Marlins slugger is still swinging the big stick, currently riding a three-game home run hitting streak.
Ichiro Suzuki Ichiro is currently riding the wave of a 12-game hitting streak. Too bad the Mariners offense has about as much bark in it as an asthmatic dog.
Lance BerkmanSmooth-swinging switch hitter Berkman currently has the longest hit streak going in the National League at 11 games.
Albert PujolsAlbert Pujols has put his stamp on the game forever. Pujols has reached base safely in every single game he has played in this season. Pujols’ record-making consecutive streak has now reached 39 games, which in today’s game is truly an amazing feat and a testament to one of the best hitters in the game today. By the way, he is also on an 11-game hitting streak.
