North Carolina vs. Washington State
After battling in the first half to hold North Carolina to 35 points as a team; and Tarheel star Tyler Hansbrough to just 2 points in the first half, Washington State went into the half down by 14 for their efforts. The Cougars shot poorly from the field and despite the fact that they were playing good defense, they could not keep up offensively with North Carolina. The Tarheels came out in the second half and pushed the lead up to 20 points as Hansbrough finally found his form. A 2-16 3-point performance from the Cougars just wasn’t going get it done. The North Carolina Tarheels advance to the Elite Eight with a 68-47 victory.

Louisville vs. Tennessee
Rick Pitino’s Louisville Cardinals were well prepared and executed a perfect game plan against Bruce Pearl’s Tennessee Volunteers. The Cardinals frustrated the Volunteers with a swarming defense and an aggressive press break. Louisville controlled the entire first half of play and went into halftime with a 7 point advantage. In the second half, the frantic style of basketball the Volunteers have made poetic, began to lead to turnovers and bad shots. Louisville was just too strong defensively for the Volunteers to manufacture any offense. Chris Lofton and the Volunteers were held in check, while Louisville exploded on offense with 6 players scoring in double figures in points. Tennessee becomes the third No. 2 seed to be eliminated as Louisville advances to the Elite Eight with a 79-60 victory. Louisville will take on the North Carolina Tarheels in the Elite Eight.
