Best Running Teams

•    Tennessee Titans: Don’t let the first drive from the Monday Night game fool you. The Titans want to run teams into the ground, and that mentality shouldn’t change when they come off their bye week. Tennessee has the second-best run offense in the league. They’ve run it 117 times this year compared to just 71 passes.

•    Pittsburgh Steelers: All this talk about Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin opening up the offense and airing it out early is a smokescreen for what’s really going down. The Steelers still play smash-mouth football, just like they did with head coach Bill Cowher. In an offense that runs the rock 36 times per game, starting RB Willie Parker has topped 100 yards three weeks in a row, and Ben Roethlisberger is passing it just 25.6 times per game.

•    Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jags went against the grain and used new starting QB David Garrard’s arm early in the season. The experiment got them a loss at home to Tennessee and just a 13-7 win over Atlanta. They got back to the ground game versus the Broncos, running it 47 times compared to 20 passes and won the game 23-14. With talented backs Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew, there’s no reason that shouldn’t continue.

Best Passing Teams

•    New England Patriots: Check the Pats’ passing/rushing attempts and you’ll see balance, which would make them a tough bet for Bodog Live players. However, you can make a good chunk of change by betting on pass completions. Quarterback Tom Brady is torching teams through the air this year. Amazingly, he’s completed 79.5 percent of his passes.

•    Detroit Lions: If you haven’t caught on yet, Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz likes to call a lot of pass plays. And so far, QB Jon Kitna is more than happy to comply. They have almost tripled the pass attempts compared to runs at 138/54. And with such a bad defense (the Lions D give up 31.3 points per game) that’s not going to change.

•    Cincinnati Bengals: Carson Palmer’s the QB and Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh are the wideouts, so you shouldn’t be surprised that they are one of the top squads when betting “pass.” Not only was this squad already the second-best passing team in football, but with RB Rudi Johnson nursing a bad hammy, they’re probably going to toss it even more.

Best Scoring Teams

•    Dallas Cowboys: As long as you keep in mind that the Cowboys seem to be a better second-half team right now, there’s no better squad to bet on when Bodog Live wagers, “Will this team score on this drive?” or “Will this team score a TD on this drive?” The Cowboys have 14 TDs in just three games so far, and their red zone efficiency is .929 with eight TDs and five field goals.

•    New England Patriots: The Pats again? Of course, if you’ve watched them the last three weeks, you’d know they’ve been unstoppable. They currently have the most TDs in the redzone with nine.

•    Indianapolis Colts: Again, no surprise here, but what will shock you is this stat: The Colts are .929 in the redzone but not because of TDs. They have five TDs in the red but boast eight field goals.
