Two of our “Experts” offer their own unique take on the Pistons-Knicks match-up this Sunday. Q: These two teams are the polar opposites of “How to Run a Franchise.” The Pistons are yet again a dominant force in the NBA and the Knicks have been reduced to a circus sideshow - do the Knicks have a chance in this game? Jimmy- A chance? Always. A good one? Not really. Coach Isiah Thomas recently said his Knicks are “playing afraid,” and that’s no way to take on Detroit. The Pistons have been great on the road while the Knicks are under .500 at home. That said, New York has certainly been better at MSG than away from it. Must be all those loving fans.
Melissa- Obviously the Knicks have a chance. Think about it. The Knicks could win if the entire Detroit team was forced to shoot hoops in Starburys that were three sizes too small. Likewise, if the Pistons’ bus got stuck in the mud just outside of New York, it would be a sure victory for our favorite underdog. A nasty case of the stomach flu, several king cobra bites and the sudden onset of leprosy in Detroit could do it. I’m not saying that it wouldn’t take a catastrophe of biblical proportions. But if Noah could build an ark, the Knicks could win this match.
