The BCS National Championship Game or BCS title game is the final bowl game of the season. Generally this game is to determine the top team in the nation and usually involves the top two ranked teams. This year's official sponsor is Allstate and the game will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 7, 2008 to conclude the 2007 season.

BCS Championship Game History

In 1998 the "Bowl Championship Series," was born. After years of debate, the Bowl Alliance and participating conferences reached an agreement to join a "Super Alliance." Today, all Div 1 football schools and conferences contractually agreed to participate in the BCS. When the agreement was finally signed, it became the first "true" national championship to involve all the major conferences.

From 1998 - 2005 the championship game rotated among the Rose, Orange, Sugar and Fiesta Bowls. But in 2006, in an effort to increase television ratings and to make more BCS bowl slots available, the BCS added a fifth game.

The teams participating in the BCS National Championship Game are always the top two teams in the BCS rankings by the end of the season. These rankings are based on a poll of coaches and computer rankings. Over the past few years the computer ranking system has been tweaked to address various concerns, such as issues with the strength of schedule.
