Trained by Todd Pletcher, Cowtown Cat's only victory last year was a maiden special weight at Belmont. Finished sixth in the $100,000 Nashua Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct, where he stumbled at the start and lost all chance.
Won his first start as a three-year-old in an allowance at Gulfstream Park, was third in the $150,000 Swale Stakes (G2), and then won the $200,000 Gotham Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct. Had an easy front-running win at the $500,000 Illinois Derby (G2) on April 7, beating Reporting for Duty by 2 1/4 lengths.
Cowtown Cat is a half-brother to the 2003 Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide.
