Any Given Saturday

One of several Derby contenders trained by Todd Pletcher. Any Given Saturday won his first two starts last year in a maiden special weight and an allowance and then finished a close second to Tiz Wonderful in the $200,000 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs.

Kicked off his three-year-old campaign by winning the $150,000 Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs by 2 3/4 lengths, but Street Sense defeated him by a nose in the $300,000 Tampa Bay Derby (G3) on March 17. Finished behind Nobiz Like Shobiz and Sightseeing in the $750,000 Wood Memorial Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct on April 7.

Any Given Saturday's post position is 18.

The name "Any Given Saturday", a takeoff of the football movie "Any Given Sunday", was the winning entry in an annual contest WinStar conducts among its 60 employees to name the farm's prospects.

Any Given Saturday's graded earnings of $177,969 have secured him a spot in the Kentucky Derby. The 20-horse field for the Derby is determined by graded stakes earnings if more than 20 horses are entered, and he is 16th on the list.
