Trainer D. Wayne Lukas' Flying First Class made one start as a two-year-old, where he finished second.
For his first start as a three-year-old, won a maiden special weight at Oaklawn Park by eight lengths. Followed the leader around the first turn in the $300,000 Rebel Stakes (G3) but then fell apart and finished eighth. Couldn't keep up with Curlin in the $1 million Arkansas Derby (G2) and backed up to finish a distant sixth. Cruised to victory in the $100,000 Derby Trial at Churchill Downs on April 28, winning by 3 3/4 lengths.
The Derby Trial win may have been only the second for Flying First Class, but it was the 4,999th for rider Mark Guidry.
Flying First Class placed ninth in this year's Preakness Stakes.
