Zanjero

Trainer Steve Asmussen's Zanjero was the winner of two of four races last year, including his maiden on the third try and an allowance at Churchill Downs. Was second to Nobiz Like Shobiz in the $200,000 Remsen Stakes (G2) for his fifth and final start of 2006.

Finished third in the $300,000 Risen Star Stakes (G3) at the Fair Grounds after making a late gain. Came back with another third in the $600,000 Louisiana Derby, and yet another in the $750,000 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes Stakes (G1) on April 14.

Zanjero needs a new rider for the Kentucky Derby, as his regular rider, Garrett Gomez, will be riding Any Given Saturday.

With graded earnings of $205,000, Zanjero is 14th on the graded earnings list for Derby contenders.
