Storm in May

Trained by Bill Kaplan, Storm in May started eight times last year, all at Calder. Broke his maiden in his third start on the dirt, and then won his fifth and sixth starts on the turf. Finished the year with two third-place finishes.

For his first start as a three-year-old, finished third in the $100,000 Tropical Park Derby (G3). Won the $250,000 Sunshine Millions Dash at Gulfstream Park by 1 1/4 lengths. The only bad race of his career was a sixth-place finish in the $150,000 Hutcheson Stakes (G2), almost 12 lengths behind King of the Roxy. Finished third in the $150,000 Palm Beach Stakes (G3) and then second in the $1 million Arkansas Derby (G2), 10 1/2 lengths behind Curlin.

Storm in May has been blind in his right eye almost since birth.

The $200,000 Storm in May picked up with his second-place finish in the Arkansas Derby gave him enough graded earnings to run in the Kentucky Derby even if more than 20 horses enter. With graded earnings of $227,500, he is now in the 12th spot on the graded earnings list.
