King of the Roxy

Trainer Todd Pletcher's King of the Roxy broke his maiden on his second try at Hollywood Park, placed second in the $200,000 Saratoga Special Breeders' Cup (G2) and won the $250,000 Futurity Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park. However, the only time he tried to go farther than 7 1/2 furlongs was at the $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1), where he finished a distant eighth.

In his first start of the year, was an impressive winner of the 7 1/2-furlong $150,000 Hutcheson Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park. Led past the eighth pole but was overhauled by Tiago just before to wire in the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby (G1) on April 7.

Marrakesh, the dam of King of the Roxy, is a daughter of the 1976 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner Bold Forbes.

King of the Roxy has been pulled off the trail for the Kentucky Derby but will likely run in the Preakness Stakes.
