THE TURF
The $3 million Breeders' Cup Turf is a 1 1/2-mile weight-for-age Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds and up that crowns one of the year's fastest turf performers. High Chaparral captured the Turf title twice if you count the dead heat in 2003 against Johar. In recent years the race has been dominated by European-based horses, including winners Shirocco and Red Rocks. Chief Bearhart's winning time of 2:23.92 from 1997 has never been beat.
