Celebrate Good Times

July 20, 2004

Bodog.com Sportsbook and Casino™ has released odds on which player, under the new NFL rules, will be fined for an excessive or prolonged touchdown celebration.

With last season providing some of the more eccentric celebrations, you can now wager on which player will showboat at the cost of their wallet.

“Terrell Owens was the first of the new breed of NFL stars to take touchdown celebrations to a new level. Whether it be the Sharpie incident, or dancing with the cheerleaders, Owens has the showboating down pat,” said Rob Gillespie, former book manager and respected industry author. “Joe Horn was fined $30,000 last season for the pre-meditated cell phone celebration, which turned out to be his seventh fine levied since 2000.”

With Terrell Owens being the new-age celebration king, he is the odds on favorite to be the first player fined. Owens is listed at 15/2 odds. Joe Horn, not to be outdone by anyone, is close behind Owens at 8/1 odds. Chad Johnson is now more famous for the “Please don’t fine me” sign than for his play on the field. Johnson is listed at 10/1 odds. After missing a good portion of last season, Keyshawn Johnson will be back with a vengeance in Dallas. Currently, Johnson is tied with Minnesota mainstay, Randy Moss, at 12/1 odds.

Dante Hall, often referred to as the human joystick, is also in the fray at 18/1 odds. With a promising future still to come, Michael Vick might break into song and dance in the end zone this season. Vick’s odds are listed at 20/1. You can’t forget the big man, or the fat man’s dance, which has Warren Sapp positioned at 25/1 odds. The long shot option for this wager has NFL senior, Marvin Harrison, being the first man fined this season at 80/1 odds.

“The celebrations were, for the most part, quite funny. But some people started to push the envelope, and the NFL needed to protect its image,” said Gillespie. “If someone does take the chance and the monetary hit, I hope it is something really off the charts.”
