Bodog Sportsbook, Casino and Poker™ posted odds early last week on whether or not network executives at ABC would fire Monday Night Football sideline reporter Lisa Guerrero in the wake of widespread criticism.
"We put it on the board for a bit of fun," said Rob Gillespie, President of Bodog Sportsbook, Casino and Poker. "The media seemed to have some fun with it as well."
The Lisa Guerrero prop, unique to Bodog, was featured in the USA Today, the Las Vegas Sun, the Boston Globe and the Orlando Sentinel.
"Everybody wanted to know how the public was betting," said Gillespie. "What better way to gauge the opinion of the sports-viewing public."
Stephen Nover, one of the sports wagering industry's most respected journalists, also wrote about the prop in a feature piece on ThePrescription.com.
"We like to offer unique props like this for two reasons," said Gillespie. "First, it's something unique for our regular players to bet on. Second, it gets people talking about us, and this prop certainly did both."
Bodog's bookmakers made her an even-money longshot to return to the sidelines in 2004.
"When we put up the prop, columnists across the United States were calling for her head," said Gillespie. "And we had to anticipate the betting public feeling very much the same way."
