Bodog posts odds on '04 Democratic Candidate

Bodog Sportsbook, Casino and Poker™ officially posted odds today on the race to be the 2004 Democratic presidential candidate and has listed former governor of Vermont Howard Dean as the odds-on favorite.

“Dean has come across so far as the favorite,” said Rob Gillespie, President of Bodog Sportsbook, Casino and Poker. “He’s very organized, very focused on his campaign and has a strong set of advisors. He has all the tools to be the man chosen to go mano a mano with President Bush.”

Dean is listed at 2/1 while John Kerry, a Massachusetts senator, is the second favorite at 3/1.

“Only a few weeks ago Kerry could have been seen as the favorite,” said Gillespie. “But it appears there is a fair amount of dissent within his own ranks, so he may fade a bit heading into the primaries.”

Just behind Dean and Kerry is a candidate who has yet to officially enter the race, Hillary Clinton, at 4/1.

“Rumors are growing that she may in fact announce plans to run,” said Gillespie. “She’s certainly got the support of a number of key democrats and nobody would deny she’s capable of winning the primaries.”

Wesley Clark, who only announced his intention to run last week, is 8/1. The long shots in the field are Carol Moseley Braun, at 35/1, and Rev. Al Sharpton, at 50/1 – the longest odds on the board.

“Sharpton has certainly been very vocal and certainly has the ability to get his name out there,” said Gillespie. “Both Braun and Sharpton would have to pull off some major political coup to have any real support from within the party and they’ve got to be considered extreme long shots.”
