Carlos Pena hit a three-run dinger and drove in five runs to lead the Tampa Bay Rays in an 11-2 rout of the Kansas City Royals in the opener of a four-game series at Tropicana Field Friday.
Tampa Bay won the game as -160 favorites, while the 13 runs made it OVER the posted over/under (9).
Carl Crawford went 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs and scored twice for the Rays. Edwin Jackson surrendered two runs off four hits in eight innings for the victory.
Mark Grudzielanek homered in a losing effort for the Royals. Brian Bannister gave up seven runs over five innings and fell to 7-8 on the season.
